
Schmidt Signs Entry-Level NHL Contract with Lightning

Tampa Bay, FL - The Tampa Bay Lightning vice president and general manager Julien BriseBois announced that defenseman Roman Schmidt signed a three-year entry-level contract. Roman was Tampa's third-round selection (96th overall), in the 2021 NHL Draft.
Schmidt, 18, spent the previous two seasons (2019-20 through 2020-21) in the USHL before coming to Kitchener this fall to play in the Ontario Hockey League. The blueliner has tallied six goals and five assists for 11 points in 22 games this season with The Rangers.
The 6-6, 209lb., defenseman was born in Etobicoke before moving to Midland, Michigan. Born February 27, 2003, Schmidt represented The US on the Under-18 team at the 2020 World Juniors where he won the bronze medal.
