Schmidt Named Pitcher-Of-The-Week

MOOSIC, PA - Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders pitcher Clarke Schmidt was honored as the International League Pitcher-of-the-Week for his efforts between August 8-14. The right-hander pitched six perfect innings with a career-best 11 strikeouts against the Worcester Red Sox in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre's 4-1 win on August 11.

Schmidt, 26, was selected by the Yankees in the first round of the 2017 Draft and has spent time with both New York and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this season.

On Thursday, Schmidt made his seventh start with the RailRiders and faced the WooSox for the second time in 2022. All 11 of his strikeouts went down swinging as he surpassed his career-high by two Ks.

He is 2-0 with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this season over those seven games, sporting a 2.86 ERA with 39 strikeouts and seven walks. Schmidt is 4-2 with a 2.40 ERA with the Yankees this season.

Schmidt joins Matt Krook and Estevan Florial as Scranton/Wilkes-Barre's weekly award winners this season. Krook and Florial swept the honors from June 28 through July 3.

The RailRiders are idle Monday and open a six-game series in St. Paul on Tuesday, August 16. After a two-week road swing, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre returns to PNC Field on August 30 to host the Syracuse Mets. Tickets for any remaining home game are available online at swbrailriders.com.
