Mississippi Braves News Release
PEARL, MS -- Braeden Schlehuber and Barrett Kleinknecht lifted the Mississippi Braves to a 5-1 victory over the Mobile BayBears Sunday at Trustmark Park. With the win, the M-Braves claimed another series victory. The final game of the current 10-game homestand is slated for 7:00 PM Monday.
Mississippi (25-19, 64-49) scored five runs on seven hits while Mobile (25-17, 67-44) plated one run on five hits. Braeden Schlehuber led the Braves with a 2-for-3 night at the plate. He drove in two runs and scored one. Barrett Kleinknecht added a pinch-hit two-run homer.
Ryan Weber (5-4) picked up the win, limiting Mobile to one run on four hits while fanning five in seven innings pitched. John Cornely (S, 3) worked the final two frames to pick up his third save. He gave up one hit and struck out one.
The M-Braves took a 1-0 lead in the third. Gustavo Nunez walked and moved to second on an errant pickoff attempt. He took third on a passed ball and came in to score on Schlehuber's single to center.
In the top of the seventh, Brandon Drury doubled and scored on a Peter O'Brien singled to center, tying the game.
The Braves responded after the stretch. Nunez walked and scored when Schlehuber delivered a doubled to left field, giving the Braves a 2-1 advantage. Kleinknecht then blasted a pinch-hit two-run shot to left, making it 4-1.
In the eighth, Rich Poythress singled to right and moved to second on a wild pitch. David Rohm then delivered a RBI-single to center field, extending the Braves lead to 5-1.
Bradin Hagens (8-6) took the loss, giving up four runs and three earned runs on five hits. He walked four and struck out two.
In Monday's series finale at Trustmark Park, M-Braves right-hander Mitch Atkins (5-0, 4.17) counters BayBears righty Archie Bradley (2-1, 3.97). First pitch is set for 7:00 PM. Gates open at 6:00 PM.
