Chattanooga Lookouts News Release
In the bottom of the 11th inning Scott Schebler hit his second home run of the day to lift the Chattanooga Lookouts (17-25) over the Birmingham Barons (22-21) by a score of 4-3 and extend their winning streak to three games.
In the early moments of the game the Lookouts batters didn't get many chances off of Barons' starting pitcher Chris Bassitt (ND, 0-0), but Schebler made the most of his opportunity in the third inning. Bobby Coyle Jr. smashed a two-out double off the wall in center field, bringing Schebler to the dish. Just three pitches later, he crushed a home run to right-center field to give the Lookouts an early lead on his 19th home run of the season.
Southpaw Chris Reed (ND, 4-8) had one of his best performances on the mound this year for the Lookouts. Reed worked his way through seven innings while only giving up a single run on a Dan Black home run that threatened to break some lights on the AT&T Field scoreboard.
Thanks to the Schebler home run, Reed left the game with an opportunity to add a win to his record, but a RBI groundout by Barons' first baseman Christian Marrero tied the game in the eighth inning.
In extra innings, Jeremy Farrell gave the Barons a 3-2 lead in the top of the 11th inning on an RBI single. After Birmingham took the lead it looked like they had the game in hand, but Schebler had something to say about that in the bottom of the inning. On the first pitch of the at-bat the left-hander smacked a home run that was nearly identical to his first two-run shot of the day.
The series finale will begin Monday night at 7:15 pm. Right-hander Steve Smith (0-0, 5.73) is scheduled to make his third start as a member of the Lookouts against Barons' RHP Myles Jaye (3-9, 5.83) on Kids Eat Free Monday.
Notes: This is the fourth time this season that the Lookouts have been on a three-game winning streak. The first three were April 19-21, April 24-26 and June 23-25. They will be looking for their first four-game winning streak tomorrow night.
