Schingoethe Signs with Black Hawks

Waterloo, Iowa - Around the time forward Wyatt Schingoethe turns 16 in August, he will be a full participant in the Waterloo Black Hawks' annual orientation camp at Young Arena as he prepares for his first United States Hockey League season.

On Tuesday, the Black Hawks signed the Chicagoland product and Notre Dame recruit to a tender agreement for the 2018/19 season. Schingoethe was a vital contributor to the Chicago Mission U-16s astoundingly strong season. The Mission compiled a record of 61-8-3-4 (w-l-t-otl). Earlier this month, they claimed USA Hockey's Tier I 16U National Championship in Philadelphia.

Schingoethe is the first forward, and just the third player at any position, to be tendered by the Black Hawks since the early signing option became part of the USHL player procurement process in 2012.

"It's obvious that we think Wyatt is a special player who will make an immediate contribution to our roster next fall," said Black Hawks Head Coach and General Manager P.K. O'Handley. "In addition, we have great past and present connections with the Chicago Mission and know the quality of the players they develop, so the future is bright."

Current Black Hawks Jack Drury and Hunter Lellig are Mission alumni. Drury was Waterloo's leading scorer during the 2017/18 season with 65 points (24 goals, 41 assists) and ranked fifth overall in the USHL. This week, NHL Central Scouting ranked him 27th among North American prospects for this summer's NHL Draft. Lellig is originally a Waterloo native who joined the Mission program. Spending his first full season with the Hawks in 2017/18, the defenseman appeared in 53 games with four goals and seven assists.

Current Chicago Blackhawks forward and three-year Waterloo star Vinnie Hinostroza came to the Cedar Valley via the Chicago Mission in 2011. Former Waterloo captains Matt Arhontas and Tim Lappin also developed there before beginning their junior careers.

Schingoethe is the first player to be offered and accept a tender by the Black Hawks since Mikey Anderson in 2015. Anderson spent two years in Waterloo and was chosen by the LA Kings during the fourth round of last summer's NHL Draft. Earlier this month, he concluded his freshman season at the University of Minnesota-Duluth by being a steady contributor throughout the Bulldogs' NCAA championship run.

Defenseman Sam Rossini was the first player tendered by Waterloo in 2014.

The 2017/18 Anderson Cup Champion Black Hawks are currently awaiting their first 2018 Clark Cup Playoff game. Waterloo will take the ice at Young Arena either Friday or Saturday, depending on the outcome of opening round Western Conference playoff games.
