Waterloo Black Hawks Sign Wyatt Schingoethe to Tender

April 18, 2018 - United States Hockey League (USHL) News Release

The Waterloo Black Hawks announced the signing of forward Wyatt Schingoethe to a tender agreement for the 2018-19 season. Schingoethe is a native of Algonquin, IL and is committed to play college hockey at the University of Notre Dame.

Now in its seventh year, the USHL tender process allows teams to sign up to two 2002 birth year players prior to the 2018 USHL Phase I Draft, which takes place on May 7.

Schingoethe spent last season with the Chicago Mission U16 team, totaling 13 points (7G, 6A) in 20 games along with 18 penalty minutes. He helped the Mission to a 61-8-3-4 record and the USA Hockey Tier 1 16U National Championship earlier this month. He also previously participated in the USHL Combine, part of the USHL Development Series.

"It's obvious that we think Wyatt is a special player who will make an immediate contribution to our roster next fall," said Black Hawks Head Coach and General Manager P.K. O'Handley. "In addition, we have great past and present connections with the Chicago Mission and know the quality of the players they develop, so the future is bright."

Schingoethe is the first tender signing for Waterloo this season. The signing of Schingoethe will replace the Black Hawks' first round draft choice in the 2018 USHL Phase I Draft.

If Waterloo tenders a second player, that signing would take the place of a second-round selection in the 2018 USHL Phase I Draft. The final day for USHL teams to sign a tender is Sunday, May 6, 2018. Each tendered player will be on their respective team's roster the next season and play at least 55% of the team's regular season games.

Schingoethe becomes the sixth player signed to a tender for the 2018-19 season, joining Ruben Rafkin (Tri-City Storm), Chase Bradley (Omaha Lancers), Colby Ambrosio (Tri-City Storm), Alex Gaffney (Muskegon Lumberjacks) and Ben Schoen (Youngstown Phantoms).

Schingoethe is the third player to be tendered by Waterloo since the start of the USHL tender process, joining University of Minnesota forward Sam Rossini (2014) and Minnesota Duluth defenseman Mikey Anderson (2015), a Los Angeles Kings prospect who won a NCAA championship with Bulldogs earlier this month.
