Schaumburg Boomers News Release
SCHAUMBURG, Ill. - Tied for the league's best record with three games Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, announced first baseman Tony Delmonico was named the Frontier League Player of the Week for the week of August 25.
In the midst of an 11-game hitting streak, Delmonico has been a mainstay in the lineup since being acquired via trade on July 22. The 6-0 infielder has posted a .500/.655/.895 slash line since August 20 going 19-for-38 at the plate. Delmonico's red-hot stretch has included four homers, three doubles, 14 RBI and 19 runs scored, and the Tennessee native has drawn 17 free passes as well with 12 walks and five HBP.
With the Boomers this season, Delmonico leads the club with a .363 batting average and 11 home runs despite appearing in just 37 games. Delmonico also boasts 43 runs scored, nine doubles and 38 RBI to go along with a .494 on base percentage and .674 slugging percentage during a stellar 2014 so far with Schaumburg.
Delmonico, 27, is a former sixth round pick of the Los Angeles Dodgers who advanced as high as Single-A Advanced Rancho Cucamonga as an infielder in 2012. Delmonico spent the past two seasons with the Boomers attempting the conversion to a full-time pitcher and even was the winning pitcher in the final game of the 2013 Championship Series. Prior to re-joining Schaumburg via trade after the All-Star Break, Delmonico split time between the Lancaster Barnstormers (appearing in 15 games and hitting .304 with a homer and 6 knocked in) and the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (32 games, two home runs and 13 RBI) in the Atlantic League.
With this award, Delmonico becomes the third member of the Schaumburg Boomers to earn a weekly honor in the Frontier League this season joining teammates SS Gerard Hall and RHP Seth Webster.
