
Slammers Crush Gateway 17-5 on Tuesday for 5th Straight Win

The Joliet Slammers-Presented by ATI Physical Therapy-rolled over Gateway 17-5 on Tuesday at Silver Cross Field.
Gateway scored four runs in the 1st two innings against Joliet starter Matt Crim. Garrett Vail delivered a 2-run single in the 1st. Tommy Richards ripped an RBI triple in the 2nd and scored on a sacrifice fly from Kale Kiser to make it 4-0. Crim was lifted in favor of Ethan Carter, who pitched three shutout innings to allow time for the Slammers to make a comeback. A bases loaded walk to Adam Giacalone put Joliet on the scoreboard in the 3rd and then they scored five runs in the 4th to take a 6-4 lead. Chris Epps led off the 4th inning with a solo homer and later Max Casper singled in a run to make it 4-3. Grant DeBruin then crushed a 3-run home run to centerfield and it became 6-4. It was the team-best 11th homer for DeBruin and he then added a RBI single in the 5th. Casper added an RBI earlier with a walk in that inning and a Russell Moldenhauer 2-run single made it a 10-4 lead. DeBruin then scored on a wild pitch to make it 11-4. The Slammers lead moved to 12-4 thanks to a solo homer from JD Dorgan in the 6th inning. Sam Moore followed Carter and put up two shutout innings of relief of his own with a pair of strikeouts. John Maloney then came on for the Slammers and pitched a shutout 8th. In the bottom of the 8th a run scored on an error and then DeBruin crushed a grand slam home run to make the score 17-4. It also gave him 8 RBI on the day, 12 homers and 65 RBI on the year. The ball just missed the building in the Beer Garden and the second bounce put it out of the stadium and onto Clinton Street. Tyler Thicke pitched the 9th for Joliet and allowed a RBI double to Michael Wing as the final score became 17-5. The Slammers have now won a season-high 5 games in a row. 17 runs is also a season-best for Joliet.
In the middle of the 8th inning, the Slammers gave away $250 to lucky fan,Tammy Bush, as part of their Amazing August/September promotion. Each home game the remainder of the season will see one fan go home with at least $250 dollars. The higher that night's attendance, the higher the payout will be. The payout on Friday, August 1st to a lucky winner was $5000.
Wednesday's game is at a special 10:05am start time and the season finale begins at 7:05pm on Thursday. The final game will have fireworks afterwards on Fan Appreciation Night. Each game will feature 2-dollar bottles of craft beer and Thirsty Thursday will also have 2-buck Bud and Bud Light drafts as well as two-dollar Pepsi products.
