Kannapolis, NC - Kannapolis (7-15) fell 5-3 to Savannah (11-12), Saturday night at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium. In a back-and-forth ballgame, the Intimidators took an early 2-0 lead with 2 triples (one from Paulo Orlando and the other from Javy Castillo) in the first inning. Savannah rebounded, tallying 1 run in each of the next 3 innings off I's SP Daniel Cortes. Cortes picked up a no-decision, lasting 5 and a third, while striking out 7 Sand Gnats. Down 3-2, Anderson Gomes singled in Javy Castillo to even things out at 3 in the 6th. Paul Moviel came in from the pen in the 7th. Moviel worked 3 straight perfect innings as he helped the I's force extra innings. In the 10th, Savannah picked up 2 runs off Jason Rice. Dee Brown's sacrifice fly plated Ofilio Castro and Rob Sandora drew a bases loaded walk. Despite a lead-off double from Francisco Hernandez, the I's failed to score in the bottom of the 10th.
Rudy Garza (1-1) of Savannah picked up the win. Coby Mavroulis nailed down his 2nd save. Jason Rice dropped to 0-3 with the loss.
Kannapolis begins continue their 4-game series with Savannah on Sunday at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium. Intimidators RHP Rafael Flores opposes Savannah's RHP Bryan Lambert. The first pitch is scheduled for 5:05.
