
Captains win over Suns

(Eastlake, OH)--Niuman Romero and Nick Petrucci hit solo homers Saturday, and Josh Noviskey chipped in a two-run single as the Lake County Captains edged the Hagerstown Suns 6-4 at Classic Park.
The Captains (13-9) have won six of the last seven games, while the Suns (7-15) have dropped eight straight. The Captains pulled to within 2 1/2 games of first place in the SAL North. Greensboro knocked off Lakewood 4-3 Saturday night.
The Captains took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on three walks, a wild pitch and a balk by Hagerstown starter Jeramy Simmons (0-1). Nick Petrucci slugged a solo shot in the second inning, his third of the season, to make it 3-0.
Simmons, making his SAL debut after a call-up from Brooklyn, left the game after surrendering a two-run single to Josh Noviskey in the third inning. Noviskey's hit came with the bases-loaded. He is 5-10 in bases-loaded at-bats this year.
The Suns reached Captains starter Jeff Stevens (3-1) for three runs in the fifth. After a single and a fielding error, Stevens loaded the bases with a walk to Will Vogl. Jose Castro followed with a two-run single, and Jonel Pacheco had a sacrifice fly to make it 5-4. Only one of the runs against Stevens was earned.
Hagerstown pulled to within 5-4 in the sixth on an RBI single by Parris Austin off Mark Jecemn. Romero followed with a solo shot in the bottom of the sixth off Jim Wladyka to push the lead to 6-4. It was Romero's second of the season.
Matt Davis came on in the ninth and worked around a bases-loaded jam to post his league-best 21st save. he is three saves away from tying the Captains team record of 24 saves, set last season by Kieran Matticon.
