Saulnier brothers lead Wildcats to 2nd straight win

Alex and Allain Saulnier each had four points to lead the Wildcats to a 7-5 win over the Baie-Comeau Drakkar Friday night at the Centre Henry Leonard. In a game that saw both teams trade goals back and forward the Wildcats got goals from Cedric LeBlanc, Cole MacMillan, Daniel Milan, Devon MacAusland, Alex Saulnier and Allain Saulnier with a pair. Philippe Trudeau recorded the win stopping 10 of 12 shots after replacing starter Brandon Thibeau who stopped 8 of the 11 shots he faced. Alexandre Alain-Rajotte recorded the loss stopping 16 out of 19 shots after he replaced start Simon Giroux who managed to stop 17 of the 21 shots he faced.

The Wildcats started strong and had a 2-0 5:18 into the game. Cedric LeBlanc got the scoring started at 3:07 and Cole MacMillan scored his 2nd of the season at 5:18. The Cats continued to carry the play for the majority of the period. Baie-Comeau got a life line with 15 seconds remaining in the 1st period when Pierrick Martel scored his first of two on the night. The Wildcats lead 2-1 heading into the 1st intermission and an 11-8 advantage in shots.

The second period was a seesaw affair that saw seven goals scored in total. Alex Saulnier gave the Wildcats a 3-1 lead 22 seconds into the period. The Drakkar replied at 3:57 when Martel scored his 2nd of the game then Marc-Olivier Mimar tied the game at three at the 5:33 mark. Daniel Milan got the Cats back on top at 8:08, and then at 11:02 Allain Saulnier restored the Wildcats two goal lead. The Drakkar got to within one when Samuel Noreau notched his first of the season at 11:45. Allain Saulnier ensured the Cats would take a two goal lead into the 2nd intermission scoring his second of the game with 39 seconds remaining in the period. The Wildcats had a 19-10 shot edge in the 2nd period.

MacAusland gave the Wildcats a 7-4 lead 1:45 into the 3rd period. Former Wildcat Raphael Bussieres cut the lead into two at 11:57 but that was as far as the Drakkar would get as the Cats we able to shut the door for the remainder of the 3rd period. The Wildcats lead the shot tally 10-5 in the 3rd period and 40-23 for the game. On the power play Moncton went 0 for 6 while Baie-Comeau was scoreless on two opportunities.

The Wildcats are back in action tomorrow at 5:00 AST as they wrap up their five game road trip in Chicoutimi against the Sagueneens.
