Lancaster Stormers News Release

Jutt Hileman drilled a three-run triple to left center in the bottom of the fifth inning as the Lancaster Barnstormers rallied for a rain-shortened, 7-4 victory over the Bridgeport Bluefish Saturday evening at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

It was the second come-from-behind win in as many nights for the Barnstormers in the opening series.

Home runs by Bobby Darula and Jesse Hoorelbeke off Tim McClaskey (1-0) boosted Bridgeport to a 4-0 lead through 2 ½ innings, but the Barnstormers were able to recover. Hileman doubled and scored on a single by Lloyd Turner to get on the board in the third, and a two-our RBI hit by Brian Stavisky plated Turner to slice the lead to 4-2.

Ian Bladergroen slammed his second home run of the year over the picnic tents in right field to lead off the fourth to bring the Barnstormers back to within a run, but the offense momentarily stalled with thunderstorms approaching the ballpark.

Randy Dicken (0-1) retired the first two batters he faced in relief of starter Tim Drew in the bottom of the fifth but ran into trouble. Lance Burkhart picked up a walk on a 3-2 pitch, and Bladergroen followed with a ground single into right. Vasili Spanos beat out an infield single on the right side to load the bases. Hileman then jumped on a 2-1 offering, ripping it beyond Darula in left to clear the bases for a 6-4 lead. Turner then tacked on his second RBI single of the game, extending the lead to three.

With rain beginning to fall, Bridgeport threatened in the sixth with a two-out uprising against reliever Nate Hoelscher. Luis Lopez picked up a base on balls, and Brian Peterson walked to bring Jake Daubert to the plate as the tying run. After going to a 3-2 count, Hoelscher won the lefty-lefty matchup with a called third strike. The Bluefish never got another chance as heavy rains struck at the end of the sixth and continued well into the night.
