Washington, D.C. (May 20, 2009) - D.C. United's Santino Quaranta is this week's MLS Goal of the Week winner. The winning tally was scored in the 85th minute of United's stirring 2-2 draw at Chivas USA. On the play, Rodney Wallace sent a crossing ball into the goalmouth that was punched away by Chivas USA goalkeeper Zach Thornton. The ball deflected off of Fred before Quaranta ran onto the loose ball and crushed a 30-yard shot into the far-post side netting. The honor marks the third week in a row that a United player has been tabbed.

In his ninth professional season, Quaranta is continuing the strong run of form that saw him produce a career-season last year. After missing three early season matches recovering from injury, the Baltimore, MD native has tallied a goal and five assists in seven MLS games (four starts). The five helpers has Quaranta tied with Chicago's Cuauhtemoc Blanco for the League-lead.

D.C. United (3-1-6, 15 points) is currently riding a seven-game unbeaten streak in all competitions and is tied for first place of Major League Soccer's Eastern Conference standings. The team returns to RFK Stadium tonight for a U.S. Open Cup qualifier against New York, followed by a League fixture with Real Salt Lake May 23. Tickets to both matches are available via www.dcunited.com .
