Lexington County Blowfish News Release
Carlos Santana hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the first inning, leading the Columbia Blowfish (5-10, 14-29) to a 10-3 victory over the Florence RedWolves (5-7, 20-20) Tuesday night at Capital City Stadium.
After the RedWolves scored a run in the top of the first inning on an RBI single by Tony Micklon, the Blowfish scored five runs in the bottom of the first off RedWolves' starting pitcher Mitchell Knox (1-5). Rob Harding and Reggie Weatherford each drove in a run in the inning that was capped off by Santana's three-run home run, his second of the season.
The RedWolves cut the Blowfish lead to 5-3 in the third inning, with Tony Micklon's second RBI single of the night. Florence also scored in the inning on an error by Harding at shortstop.
Blowfish starting pitcher Pat Ludwig would keep the RedWolves' bats quiet after the third inning. Ludwig (2-5) went six innings, giving up three runs and striking out seven to pick up the win.
Blowfish head coach Lee Gronkiewicz was ejected in the bottom of the fourth inning, arguing a foul-tip call off the bat of DeMontez Jones. Later in the inning, the Blowfish would add another run on a Tyler Jackson RBI single.
The Blowfish offense kept rolling, scoring four more runs in the bottom of the fifth off of RedWolves reliever Kit Carter. A sacrifice fly by Nick Abrahamson and an RBI double by Jones pushed the Blowfish lead to 10-3.
The Blowfish bullpen, led by Gabe Grammer and Greg Harrison, limited the RedWolves to only four base runners in the seventh, eighth, and ninth innings.
The RedWolves and Blowfish will continue their in-state rivalry tomorrow at Florence's American Legion Field.
