Santa Cruz Warriors News Release
SANTA CRUZ, CA - The Santa Cruz Warriors (9-6) once again toppled the Texas Legends (8-7), 139-126, on Saturday night at Kaiser Permanente Arena to sweep the series.
Guard Pat Spencer led both teams with a career-high 29 points off the bench, shooting 6-for-6 from three-point range in the Warriors win. Guard Kendric Davis followed closely behind with 24 points and 11 assists in another double-double effort, and forward Jimmy Whitt impressed with a career-high 20 points and eight rebounds.
Two-way center Greg Brown III led the Legends with 28 points and added six rebounds, and guard Jordan Walker added 21 points and five assists. Forward Justin Jackson contributed 17 points and five rebounds, and guard Theo Pinson rounded out the scoring with 15 points, eight assists, and five rebounds for Texas.
The Legends opened the contest on a 7-0 run before a cutting dunk from Whitt sparked a Warriors run that pushed the Sea Dubs ahead by as many as nine points, 31-22, with less than two minutes remaining in the first quarter. Texas quickly countered to narrow the Warriors lead to just three points, 35-32, to close out the frame. The Legends scored 11 straight points to open the second quarter and regain the lead, but the Warriors continued to battle until a layup from forward Javan Johnson tied the score at 68 with 1:13 remaining in the period. Despite Whitt and Spencer's combined 29 first-half points for Santa Cruz, the Legends managed to retain a slim advantage, forcing the Warriors to enter the break trailing 75-72.
The contest went back and forth throughout the third quarter until 15 unanswered points helped the Sea Dubs reclaim the lead, 97-88, with less than five minutes remaining in the frame. The Warriors held their lead to end the quarter ahead 106-101. The final frame saw both teams matching each other point-for-point until back-to-back steals from Spencer fueled a 19-6 run that ultimately sealed the win for the Warriors, 139-126.
