Stars Secure First Win in Mexico City

MEXICO CITY - The Salt Lake City Stars (5-9), the official NBA G League affiliate of the Utah Jazz, claimed victory over the Mexico City Capitanes (8-5), 119-96, in the first game of their back-to-back set at Mexico City Arena.

The Stars were led by both Utah Jazz assignment players Brice Sensabaugh and Taylor Hendricks. Hendricks scored 19 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the field, blocking three shots, and grabbing two rebounds. Sensabaugh came off the Stars bench to notch another 19 points, four rebounds, and three assists. Jazz two-way player Micah Potter, added a double-double on 14 points with a matching 14 rebounds. Stars guard Isaiah Miller came off the bench to contribute 10 points on a perfect 4-of-4 shooting from the field, nearly notching a triple-double with seven rebounds, and eight assists.

The Stars shot out of the gate, taking a strong 16-7 run at the start of the first quarter, before ending the frame with a 16-point lead on the Capitanes. Salt Lake City only strengthened their lead, heading into the break with a 58-41 advantage.

The Capitanes continued to fight, however were never able to gain a lead on the visiting Salt Lake City team, as the Stars captured their largest lead of the night with 31-points in the fourth. The team secured their first win in the back-to-back set in Mexico City, 119-96.

Mexico City guard Ethan Thompson led the game with a season high 35 points on 12-of-26 shooting from the field, netting a perfect six-of-six from the free throw line, while grabbing eight rebounds. Iverson Molinar came off the bench for the Capitanes, adding 16 points, three rebounds, and three assists.

The Stars return to Mexico City Arena tomorrow for their second game of their back-to-back set.The contest tips off at 3 p.m. MT and will be broadcast LIVE on Jazz+ and NBAGLeague.com.
