Santa Cruz Warriors News Release
SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The Santa Cruz Warriors will celebrate the NBA's Green Week over the next three home games by partnering with local environmental nonprofits in an effort to highlight their work and the importance of protecting our community's natural beauty.
In recognition of the positive impact the organizations have had on all facets of the Santa Cruz area, each night will center around a specific theme. Friday, March 22 is "Ocean Warriors" night, featuring Save Our Shores, the Seymour Discovery Center, O'Neill Sea Odyssey and the Sanctuary Exploration Center. Saturday, March 23 is "Nature Warriors" night, and the Resource Conservation District, Natural History Museum, Friends of Santa Cruz State Parks and the Coastal Watershed Council will participate. Monday, March 25 will be "Clean Air Warriors" night, featuring Ecology Action, People Power and Friends of the Rail and Trail.
In an effort to encourage children to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, members of the Santa Cruz Warriors will help reward students who participate in the Active4Me Program at Bayview Elementary. On Wednesday, March 20 at 7:45 a.m., Warriors players will be on hand to greet and reward students who walk, bike, skate or scooter to school. Mav'Riks will also be in attendance at a volunteer workday, hosted by the Volunteers to Save Soquel Creek, at 831 Bay Avenue on the morning of Saturday, March 23.
The Warriors are also helping raise funds for the Sanctuary Exploration Center with a family event on Thursday, March 21 from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. The event features a live auction, as well as the opportunity to explore the sanctuary with Santa Cruz Warriors players. Tickets are available online at http://sanctuaryexplorationcenter-eorgf.eventbrite.com/ or can be purchased at the door.
During the next three Santa Cruz Warriors home games, there will be numerous green themed activities, including time out games, face painting and a half time show. In addition to the bike parking already on site at the Kaiser Permanente Arena, People Power will provide free bike valet within a short walking distance of the arena. Fans are encouraged to do their part by walking, biking, bussing or carpooling to games this week and to all events at the Kaiser Permanente Arena.
Tickets are still available for Friday, March 22 and Monday, March 25 for members of the community who would like to support Green Week. Head to http://www.nba.com/dleague/santacruz/individual_tickets.html to learn more.
