Santa Cruz Warriors News Release
SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The Santa Cruz Warriors and Goodwill are teaming up on March 27- 29th during the Warriors weekend home-stand to collect donations for Goodwill. The donated goods received from the event will be sorted and distributed to local Goodwill stores where it will be sold to fund Goodwill's job training and other employment services.
"Goodwill has done a remarkable job in Santa Cruz County funding job placement, job training programs and community-based support services, said Jim Weyermann, President of the Santa Cruz Warriors. "We are excited to partner with them for this donation drive to give an extra boost to the commendable work they continue to do for the people of our community."
Goodwill is providing the use of an attended 28-foot mobile Donation Center to be located adjacent to Kaiser Permanente Arena to receive donations of clothing, shoes, household goods, computers, sporting goods, books and toys during the three-day event. Members of the community can drop off their donations beginning at the kick-off on Friday where players and coaches will be on hand for a meet and greet. Contributors to the donation drive will receive a two-for-one ticket voucher redeemable at any of the final three home games of the Warriors regular season. The Donation Drive drop-off hours are Friday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm and Saturday and Sunday from 1:00 pm to 7:30 pm.
The donation drive will also benefit the Warriors "Read to Achieve" program which sees participation from 4,000 students enrolled in the Santa Cruz City Schools. A portion of the proceeds from the donation drive will be donated by Goodwill to the program for the 2015-2016 Read to Achieve campaign.
"Goodwill helps change lives by creating local job opportunities for our neighbors. The funds raised through the upcoming Donation Drive with the Warriors will do just that by creating jobs in Santa Cruz, while also supporting the Warriors Read to Achieve program that has already been very impactful in fostering a love for reading in young people in our community," said Edward Durkee, President and CEO of Goodwill Central Coast.
Goodwill donated nearly $30 thousand last year to schools and community groups participating in the Donation Drive Program.
