ONTARIO, CA. - The Santa Cruz Warriors (9-8) defeated the Agua Caliente Clippers (5-8) 115-102 Tuesday night at Toyota Arena in their last game before heading to Las Vegas for the 2019 NBA G League Showcase.
Alen Smailagic, on assignment from Golden State, led all Sea Dubs and set a new career high 29 points. He connected on five of nine 3-point attempts, hitting five 3-pointers for the second straight game. Golden State two-way guard Ky Bowman added 20 points and six assists.
Devyn Marble, Jeremy Pargo and Nick Zeisloft each added 13 points as all Warriors starters ended in double figures. Juan Toscano-Anderson chipped in 15 points and eight rebounds from the bench.
The Warriors scored just six points in the first five minutes and trailed 27-26 at the end of the first quarter, but Santa Cruz outscored the Clippers 41-28 in the second period to take a 67-55 halftime lead. Agua Caliente cut the deficit to 83-75 with 4:45 to go in the third quarter but could get no closer, as Santa Cruz pushed the lead to as many as 18 points in the fourth quarter en route to the 13-point victory. The Warriors improved to 3-0 against the Clippers this season.
Santa Cruz shot 49 percent from the floor and connected on 41 percent of its 3-point attempts (13-of-32 3FG) while holding the Clippers to 45 percent from the field and 32 percent from beyond the arc. The Sea Dubs committed a season-low seven turnovers while dishing out 26 assists for the team's best assist-to-turnover ratio of the season.
Santa Cruz will travel to Las Vegas for the NBA G League Showcase (December 19-22), where all 28 teams will participate in a newly rebranded mid-season tournament for a $100,000 prize. The Warriors open the Showcase on Friday, December 20 at 12 p.m to face the Rio Grande Valley Vipers (4-13). The Warriors will return to Kaiser Permanente on December 29 for a 6 p.m. tip against the Texas Legends. The first 1,500 fans will receive a Golden State Warriors Snow Globe.
