Sanford Mainers News Release

BRISTOL, Ct. - In a tightly contested affair the Bristol Blues topped the Sanford Mainers at Muzzy Field, 5-4. A three-run fifth inning proved to be the difference, as the Mainers drop their third in a row and come away winless in the trip to the Nutmeg State.

After having Thursday's game against Mystic postponed, Sanford looked to get going in Bristol.

The Moose struck early once again to get things going. In the first inning, David Bermudez (Manhattan) poked a ball into center for a single that brought home Zane Raba (United States Naval Academy) and Quinn McDaniel (Maine), 2-0.

Bristol would tie it up in the bottom of the second as Joseph Rios (Central Connecticut State) and Tyler Fote (Central Connecticut State) both scored on wild pitches from Jake Poindexter (Georgia).

Sanford would turn their luck and take the lead in the fourth. Marco Castillo (Georgetown) went from second to third on a passed ball by pitcher Mason Ulsh (Quinnipiac). Then Castillo would score on a wild pitch moments later, 3-2.

In the bottom of the fifth, with two outs, Rios delivered for the Blues with a line drive that popped out of McDaniel's glove at second and brought in two runs. Fote was next up and drove Rios in on an RBI double, 5-3 Bristol.

The Mainers would pull within one off the RBI single by Raba in the sixth. Then, in the ninth, Castillo started with a leadoff single, but Sanford could not find a way to bring him and would fall in Bristol.

The Mainers return home to Goodall Park for a doubleheader against the undefeated Vermont Mountaineers. Bryce Afthim is expected to start on the hill for the first game, which is set for 4:30 p.m. The second matchup will happen 30 minutes after the conclusion of game one.
