Vermont Mountaineers News Release

Winnipesaukee, NH. - The Mountaineers traveled to Winnipesaukee tonight for the first road game of the season. The Vermont squad once again took no time getting on the board as they put up two runs in the first inning.

Evan Fox ( Stony Brook University, Ballston Spa, New York) for the third game in a row started the game with a single up the middle. The Vermont offense would help him out from there, driving in two runs in the first and continuing their trend of taking early leads in the first.

Winnipesaukee would get one back in the third inning to cut the Mountaineer's lead to one. Jack Cone (William & Mary (College of, Fairfax Station, Virginia ) was on the bump to start things off and would go two innings before Dillon Ryan (Massachusetts Boston U of, Sandwich, Massachusetts) would come in to help the cause. Ryan would earn the win for the Mountaineers tonight as the Mountaineers bettered their record to 3-0.

The game went back and forth until the 9th inning with both teams scoring two runs in the fifth inning making it 4-3 heading into crunch time. But when the ninth inning rolled around the Mountaineers were ready for action.

Vermont scored 4 runs in the top of the ninth to cushion their lead, in a display of critical hitting. The bats were booming and multiple players stepped up big to give Vermont an 8-3 lead heading into the bottom of the ninth.

Jack Metzger (Dartmouth College, Powell, Ohio) entered the game as the fifth pitcher for the Mountaineers and had a five-run lead. Metzger took the lead and ran with it. He recorded two strikeouts and closed out the win for his team. Vermont will travel to Sanford Maine tomorrow for a double header. Make sure to tune into the NECBL network to catch all the action!
