Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release
FORT MYERS, Fla. - Cole Sands fired seven innings, and Trey Cabbage knocked in two runs as part of a three run first inning, as the Miracle doubled up the Tampa Tarpons, 4-2, on Tuesday night at Hammond Stadium. The game was delayed by 40 minutes prior to first pitch due to field conditions.
Sands (3-2) allowed two runs (one earned). The right-hander struck out six and did not walk a batter.
After Tampa scored twice in the top of the first, the Miracle wasted little time answering in the bottom half. Following consecutive one-out singles from Royce Lewis, Ryan Jeffers, and Ryan Costello that loaded the bases, Jose Miranda cut the deficit to one with a sacrifice fly. Cabbage then smashed a two-run double to right that pushed the Miracle in front, 3-2.
Jacob Pearson, who was promoted from Low-A Cedar Rapids earlier in the day, provided an insurance run in the seventh with an RBI double.
Melvi Acosta earned his second save in as many chances with two scoreless innings.
The series continues on Wednesday afternoon in Fort Myers. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
