Wilmington Blue Rocks News Release
Wilmington, DE --- Anibal Sanchez extended his home scoreless innings streak to 33 straight on Thursday night, as the Blue Rocks got past the Potomac Nationals, 2-1 at Frawley Stadium. Wilmington ends their six-game home stand at an even 3-3.
Sanchez (6-1) threw six scoreless innings and allowed just one hit in winning his sixth game of the season. After allowing a lead-off single to Henry Mateo in the first inning, Sanchez did not allow a hit the rest of the way. Sanchez, who will pitch in the Carolina League/California League All-Star Game, struck out five and walked four and has not given up an earned run at Frawley Stadium this season.
Scott Youngbauer provided Wilmington's only offense with a two-run homer off Potomac starter Greg Bunn (0-1) in the first inning. Bunn was making his first-ever Carolina League start, and lasted six innings, and did not allow a run after the Youngbauer home run.
Potomac added a late run on a solo home run from Henry Mateo off of Steve Langone in the eighth inning, but Edgar Martinez came on in the ninth to pick up his sixth save of the season. Martinez coerced a game-ending 3-6-3 double play from Josh Whitesell with the tying run on base.
The Blue Rocks will take to the road for a three-game series at Winston-Salem before the All-Star Break. Sanchez and Zach Borowiak will represent Wilmington in the All-Star Game on Tuesday, June 29. After the break, the Rocks begin a six-game home stand at Frawley Stadium on Thursday, June 30, with a 7:05 p.m. game against the Lynchburg Hillcats. Game Notes: Youngbauer has now hit safely in eight consecutive games. Bryan Pritz extended his season-long streak to nine games with a 2-for-2 night at the plate.
The Blue Rocks stranded nine runners on the night.
