Potomac Nationals News Release

Potomac Nationals outfielder Frank Diaz has been chosen to the XM Satellite Radio All-Star Futures game as announced Thursday by Major League Baseball, Minor League Baseball and Baseball America. This is the third straight year that the Potomac franchise has had a player chosen to play in the Futures game. Edwin Encarnacion represented the Potomac Cannons in 2003 and Tony Blanco in 2004.

The XM Satellite Radio All-Star Futures Game will feature top U.S. and International Minor League prospects competing against each other as part of Taco Bell All-Star Sunday, July 10 at Comerica Park in Detroit. The game is scheduled to be televised LIVE on ESPN2 starting at 4:00 p.m. (EDT).

Major League Baseball, in conjunction with the 30 Major League Clubs and Baseball America, selected the 25-man rosters for each team, the U.S. Team and the World Team. Each Major League organization is represented and the World Team features players from six different foreign countries, Puerto Rico and Guam.

Diaz, a native of Venezuela, will represent the Nationals as a member of the World Team. He is currently batting .286 with 24 RBI and five home runs for the Nationals. Diaz is second in the Carolina League in triples (5), third in hits (81), and tied for third with teammate and Carolina League All-Star Kory Casto in doubles (21). He is the team leader in the above categories.

Other players chosen to represent the Carolina League in the Futures All-Star game are LHP Adam Loewen (Frederick) and RHP Anibal Sanchez (Wilmington).

Hall of Famer George Brett will manage the U.S. Team while 1984 American League Most Valuable Player and Cy Young Award Winner Guillermo Hernandez will manage the World Team.
