San Diego Gulls News Release

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Gulls won their second of back-to-back games vs. the Stockton Heat, 3-2.

Stockton got on the board early with a goal by right wing Austin Carroll, his first career professional goal, assisted by Blair Riley. The Gulls and Heat traded opportunities before San Diego answered, tying the game at one with a goal by Antoine Laganiere, his third of the season, assisted by forwards Kenny Ryan and Matt Bailey.

Just 1:29 after the Gulls evened the score, defenseman Shea Theodore was sent to the box for cross-checking and defenseman Shane O'Brien joined Theodore for unsportsmanlike conduct, putting the Gulls on a 5-vs-3 penalty kill for two minutes.

Just 56 seconds after the initial penalties were released, O'Brien was sent back to the box for Interference, putting the Gulls on the penalty kill for the second time in the period.

After a scoreless second period, both Stockton and San Diego attempted to get back into a rhythm offensively, first with a goal by the Heat that was followed by a Gulls goal only 93 seconds later. Stockton defensemen Oliver Kylington netted his second of the season, a power play goal, at 1:19 of the first period.

Gulls rookie Nick Ritchie answered with a power play goal of his own, his sixth goal of the season, with assists by Michael Sgarbossa and Chris Mueller.

With the game tied at two, Stockton and San Diego continued to battle with the go ahead goal coming just 2:25 before the end of regulation. Forward Max Friberg notched his third goal of the season, a one-on-none with goaltender Jon Gillies, assisted by Michael Sgarbossa, his second assist of the night.

San Diego and Stockton matchup next on Nov. 17 (7:00 p.m.) at Stockton Arena. The Gulls (5-1-0-0) return to Valley View Casino Center on Tuesday, Nov. 3 for their first contest of the season vs. the San Antonio Rampage (4-0-1-0).
