San Antonio FC News Release
SAN ANTONIO - San Antonio FC (2-3-1) beat LA Galaxy II (3-3-0) 2-0 at Toyota Field on Saturday night. Goals from Bradford Jamieson IV and Ever Guzman as well as a quality defensive performance earned the team their second consecutive win and first clean sheet of the season.
"We're extremely proud of the way the players conducted themselves from start to finish tonight," SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell said. "The conditions were very windy and made it difficult to do exactly what we wanted, but the players stuck to the task and worked extremely hard for 90 minutes, and obviously three points and a clean sheet is what we wanted."
SAFC opened the scoring in the 14th minute when Jamieson IV buried a rebound off his own shot past goalkeeper Justin vom Steeg to make it 1-0. The goal marks the LA native's second of the season as he scored against his former club.
The Alamo City club extended their lead in the 35th minute after Guzman found the end of a pass from midfielder Brian Gomez and slotted into an open net for the 2-0 lead. The goal marks Guzman's 19th overall for the club in all competitions for SAFC and third of the season, adding to his all-time leading goal tally.
San Antonio FC recorded their first clean sheet of the season. Goalkeeper Matthew Cardone recorded one claim on the night while defender Kai Greene recorded six tackles, five clearances and one interception. Teammate Joshua Yaro led the team with nine clearances, while defender Ebenezer Ackon recorded one tackle, four clearances and one interception.
SAFC will return to USL Championship action on Saturday, April 20 as the team visits Real Monarchs SLC at 8 p.m. CT.
