Behind Enemy Lines: Memphis 901 FC
April 13, 2019 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Nashville SC News Release
NASHVILLE - As Nashville Soccer Club prepares for its showdown for the state, we take a look at the Memphis 901 FC side of things for what the club and the media is saying leading into the match.
Memphis added a new offensive weapon to bolster its attack for the match against Nashville. Orlando City (MLS) midfielder Cameron Lindley was acquired on loan by Memphis on Friday in advance of the game Saturday. Lindley made three MLS appearances last season for Orlando City and is a former Chicago Fire Homegrown Player. Lindley played collegiately for North Carolina and was a teammate of Alan Winn and Tucker Hume.
Memphis coach Tim Mulqueen told the club's official site, ""We're going to rely on him during the match to build and sustain attacks."
In the team site's official preview for the game, Memphis claims to have one of the top defenses in the USL Championship, allowing seven goals in six games. The seven goals allowed ranks Memphis tied for 15th-most amongst USL Championship teams, in the top half of goals allowed. Meanwhile, Nashville SC has allowed just two goals and is tied for the second-best defense in the league.
Following a 1-0 loss on Wednesday night to Atlanta United 2 who fielded a team with an average age of just 20-years-old, Memphis captain Marc Burch spoke to how 901 FC would come into the matchup with Nashville.
"You learn your lessons every time you play a game and then you step on the field the next day and you figure out how to fix it," Burch said. "We are going to Nashville with the intent to win."
Memphis will have a tall task ahead of it if their captain is to be proved correct, as Nashville has lost just four times ever at home. Memphis sports a 1-3-2 record, capturing just five points through six games. In comparison, Nashville's record is 2-1-1, seven points through four games.
