ROUND ROCK - Chris Sampson worked five strong innings in his first start with the Express since returning from the Houston Astros, where he picked up a win in his first major league start.

Sampson, who worked seven innings in a win against the Chicago Cubs on June 7, scattered four hits and fanned five while allowing one earned run in a 4-3 win over Nashville. The 28-year-old has won seven consecutive decisions.

Cody Ransom and Mike Rodriguez both drilled solo home runs off of Dennis Sarfate in the second inning and Joe McEwing drove in two runs with a single in the fifth inning that gave Round Rock the 4-3 lead.

The Express, which has won nine of its last 10 games, improved to 45-29 in the Pacific Coast League American Southern Division.

The Sounds touched Sampson for a pair of runs on a pair of single and an error in the first inning before the right-hander settled in. Nashville notched another run in the fourth inning to take a 4-2 lead, but McEwing came through with a bases-loaded single in the fifth inning.

Steve Kent, Brandon Puffer and Travis Driskill struck out four over the final four innings for the Express. Driskill picked up his ninth save of the season.

The two teams face off in Game 4 on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. at The Dell Diamond. Right-hander Jason Hirsh, who has also won seven straight decisions, is scheduled to take the mound.
