Lincoln Saltdogs News Release
LINCOLN, NE - The Lincoln Saltdogs played host to the Kansas City T-Bones in a preseason scrimmage Friday at Haymarket Park. Kansas City took the exhibition contest 5-2.
Saltdogs starter Jim Paduch (0-1), the expected Opening Day starter for Lincoln this season, struck out five batters over his two innings of work. His only blemish was a second-inning solo home run allowed to T-Bones left fielder Brian Joynt. Chris Britton and Greg Lane also worked two innings each for Lincoln, and they allowed one solo homer each as well. Jake Blackwood took Britton deep and out to left in the fourth inning, while Rico Washington homered to right off of Lane in the sixth.
The Lincoln bats, meanwhile, were stymied all day by the Kansas City pitching staff. Starter Reed Santos (1-0) struck out two and did not allow a baserunner over his three innings of work. The Saltdogs did not record a baserunner until the fifth inning, when Rafael Alvarez and Argelis Nuñez drew back-to-back walks. Lincoln's first hit came in the sixth inning, a two-out single by Albenis Machado.
Kansas City put the game away with a pair of unearned runs in the seventh, courtesy of a two-run double by Dwayne White. The Saltdogs scored a pair of unearned runs in the ninth. With the bases loaded, Alvarez grounded into a fielder's choice to score one run, and Phil Hawke came home when the T-Bones threw the ball away trying to complete a double play.
The Saltdogs will play two more exhibition games this weekend. Lincoln takes on Fargo-Moorhead on Saturday, May 8 at East Hill Park in York, with the first pitch set for 6pm. The two teams will then play on Sunday, May 9 at Haymarket Park, with the first pitch set for 6:05. The Sunday game serves as the preseason party for season ticket holders, and all other fans may purchase any available seat for only five dollars a ticket.
Season Ten of Saltdogs Baseball begins on May 13 in Sioux Falls, with the home opener scheduled for May 25 against Wichita. For more team and ticket information, go to www.saltdogs.com .
