Lincoln Saltdogs News Release

LINCOLN, NEB. - With the start of the 2008 season just around the corner, the Lincoln Saltdogs are ready for Spring Training to begin. The new-look Saltdogs will hold their first practice on Saturday, April 26th, and have seven exhibition games planned in advance of the regular-season opener on May 8th.

"It's been a long wait," said Saltdogs Manager Tim Johnson. "It's always good to relax and recharge a little bit during the offseason, but after a while, you get a little tired of sitting around and waiting. I know the players are excited to get started. They've been working hard on their own to get ready, but it'll be good to get the whole team out there together and get to work."

The Saltdogs will take the field with several new faces in 2008. Two of the more prominent names are Felix Jose, a longtime major-league outfielder who was an All-Star in 1991 with the St. Louis Cardinals; and R.D. Spiehs, a former Nebraska standout who played a key role on the Huskers' first-ever College World Series team in 2001. The key returnees include Jarrett Gardner, who went 10-4 in 19 starts for the Dogs in 2007; and Lincoln native Corey Harrington, who battled through injuries to help lead the Saltdogs to the 2007 American Association playoffs.

Lincoln opens Spring Training with a pair of weekend team workouts, on Saturday the 26th and Sunday the 27th. The practices run from 9am to 1pm, and are open to the media. The rest of the Spring Training schedule is as follows:

Apr 28th: exhibition game, Saltdogs @ St. Paul Saints, 7:05pm
