Sioux Falls Canaries News Release
Sioux Falls, SD - On Friday afternoon, the Sioux Falls Canaries officially signed Dave Gassman to a professional contract. The signing was long overdue for the 58-year-old South Dakota Amateur Baseball legend who should have gotten a professional opportunity in his younger days.
"This is going to be a thrill for me," said Gassman in an interview with all three Sioux Falls television stations. "I'll probably be nervous on Monday, but I've always felt if you aren't nervous you aren't ready."
Gassman will get the start for the Canaries when they head to Caldwell Park in Mitchell to play Dakota Wesleyan University at 6:30 p.m. Gassman is scheduled to face one batter.
"We'll see how things go," said Canaries Manager Steve Shirley. "I know there will be a lot of people on hand to see Dave pitch, and I don't know if they'll let me take him out of the game after just one batter."
