Saltdogs lefty blanks Cats 4-0

Lindsay Gulin hurled seven scoreless innings and first baseman Pichi Balet had three hits and two RBI as the Saltdogs shutout the Cats 4-0 Friday night at LaGrave Field.

It was the first time this season the Cats' have been shutout.

Lincoln jumped on the board early with a Balet run-scoring single in the first. They added a run in the third on a Bryan Warner RBI double to make it 2-0.

Cats' starter Luke Hochevar (0-1) suffered the loss despite allowing only two runs on four hits in six innings of work. He struck out 10, bringing his season total to 19 strikeouts in 11 innings of work.

Hochevar left the game after six innings before Lincoln added a run in the eighth on a Brett Cooley home run, his third of the year and a run i tnhe ninth on Balet's second RBI single of the game.

Gulin dazzled for seven innings, scattering four hits and striking out eight Cats. His record improved to 2-0 on the year with the victory.

The loss was the Cats' third in a row as they dropped the opener of the three-game weekend series. Lincoln's mark improved to 7-1 as they secured sole possesion of first place in the American Association North Division.
