St. Paul Saints News Release
ST. PAUL, MN - Kevin Henry and Robert Mendoza had big nights as Sioux City ended St. Paul's six-game winning streak with a solid 6-1 decision Friday night before 6,021 fans at Midway Stadium.
Henry, in just his third game with the Explorers, scored twice and hit a solo home run. Mendoza, the number nine hitter, had a pair of RBI singles as part of an 11-hit attack off losing pitcher Anthony Boughner (1-1) and successor Ivan Hernandez.
The Saints (6-2) also hurt themselves when they committed three errors in the fifth inning alone. The total tied the amount of fielding miscues they had made in the first seven games of the season.
Billy Keppinger (1-1) went a solid six innings, giving up just four hits, to gain the win for the Explorers, who are now 5-3. Jeremy Frost provided the lone Saints run with a fifth inning home run, his first of the season. Victor Rodriguez extended his hitting streak to seven games with a first inning single.
The teams meet again Saturday night. Karsten Gaarder (0-1) is scheduled to face St. paul's T.J. Stanton (0-0) in a 7:05 p.m. affair.
