Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release
FARGO, N.D. - Matt Bywater pitched a three-hit complete-game shutout for the Lincoln Saltdogs in a 7-0 victory over the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks Thursday at Newman Outdoor Field in front of a crowd of 3,243 fans.
Bywater struck out nine batters and only walked one, while throwing 114 pitches in his second victory of the season. The RedHawks were only able to put five runners on base - with none of them reaching second. Bywater kept the RedHawks lineup hitless through 3 1/3 innings before Fargo-Moorhead's Tyler Graham beat out an infield single.
The Saltdogs scored their first runs of the game in the second off RBI singles by Matt Forgatch and Sean O'Connell. Lincoln was able to load the bases in the second with one out, but RedHawks starter Alex Caldera stranded three potential runs with two consecutive outs.
The score remained 2-0 heading into the eighth, before Tyler Hess hit Ian Gac with a pitch and Dennis Raben smacked a two-run home run to put the game out of reach off RedHawks reliever Joe Harris.
Caldera pitched six innings, allowing two earned runs on eight hits, two walks with eight strikeouts. He was credited with the loss dropping his record to 3-2.
Lincoln's Rabin and Forgatch had three hits and two RBIs apiece. David Espinosa picked up two hits and Gac scored three runs for the Saltdogs.
Nic Jackson hit a single to right field in the seventh and CJ Retherford hit a pop-up single in the infield to account for Fargo-Moorhead's hits.
With the victory, Lincoln (11-9) forced a four-game series split with Fargo-Moorhead (10-11). The RedHawks begin a series Friday against the Winnipeg Goldeyes at Newman Outdoor Field at 7:02 p.m. Tickets are available at fmredhawks.com or by calling (701) 235-6161.
