Salt Lake Falls Short in Mexico City

SALT LAKE CITY - In their second straight match-up of the Regular season against the Mexico City Capitanes, the Salt Lake City Stars fell short, 136-109, to conclude their final road trip before the new year.

Stacy Davis led the Stars with an explosive 29 points, 14 rebounds and four steals, notching a career best and double-double on the night. Meanwhile Jeenathan Williams added an impressive 28 points on 9-of-15 from the field and 3-of-5 from downtown paired with four rebounds. Coming off the bench, new roster addition Elijah Cain totaled 18 points for the Stars.

Salt Lake City (0-2) jumped out in the first half with 20 fast break points to rival Mexico City's seven. Despite successful transition breaks making up 38% of the Stars first half scoring, the team still trailed behind 65-52 at the half. Jeenathan Williams led in scoring to conclude the second frame with 15 points while reserve Eli Cain shot 50% from behind the arc totaling 10 points in the start of his Stars debut.

Mexico City took control after the break with a double-digit lead to end the third. Salt Lake City was not able to close the gap in the second half and fell to the Capitanes 136-109.

Four of Mexico City's starters scored in double-digits with Mason Jones pacing all scorers with 36 points. Gary Clark recorded a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds while Shabazz Napier came off the bench to contribute 23 points in 25 minutes of play for the Capitanes.

The Stars will return home to take on the Stockton Kings on Wednesday, Jan. 4 at the Maverik Center in West Valley, UT. Tipoff is at 7 p.m. MT and will be available on ESPN+.
