Riller, Baba And Hall Lead Strike Against Squadron

BIRMINGHAM, AL - The Texas Legends (1-1) bounced back to split the regular season-opening series against the Birmingham Squadron (1-1) with a 104-94 victory on the road Friday night. The trio of Grant Riller, Yudai Baba, and Tyler Hall combined for 79 points to lead the revenge run.

Baba started off hot with an 11-point first quarter performance to put Texas up by 10. The Legends took their largest lead of the night (+17) late in the second, but Birmingham finished on a 15-4 run to come within six (47-53) at the break. Riller and Baba finished the first half with 17 apiece as Texas sank 54% altogether.

The tide turned in the second half as Birmingham came out firing. Texas was matching nearly every shot until the final five minutes saw a 13-3 run by the home team to take a 77-73 lead into the final quarter. The Legends responded with a 12-2 run of their own to open the fourth, regaining the lead. The stretch was short-lived as Kelan Martin powered out seven points in just over two minutes and the two exchanged leads four more times. An eight-point run put Texas up by seven, and Riller finished with the final nine points for the Legends to give them the double-digit victory.

Riller had a game-high 31 points, 7 assists. Baba finished with a career-high 26 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 steals, and Hall added 22 points, 4 rebounds. Taze Moore added his first double-double of the season with 11 points, 11 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals.

Kelan Martin led the Squadron with 23 points, 5 rebounds while Zylan Cheatham grabbed 17 points, 13 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 steals. Javonte Smart tagged on 14 points, and Feron Hunt finished with 12 points, 4 rebounds.
