Salt Lake City Stars Claim Chris Smith

SALT LAKE CITY - The Salt Lake City Stars, the official NBA G League affiliate of the Utah Jazz, announced today that the team has claimed forward Chris Smith off waivers and waived forward Paris Bass.

Smith (6-9, 215, UCLA) appeared in 105 games with 46 starts for the UCLA Bruins over the course of four seasons. In his college career he averaged 8.0 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.2 assists. During his senior season Smith had a strong start averaging 12.6 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 2.0 assists in the first eight contests before tearing his ACL in Jan. 2021. Originally signed with the Detroit Pistons, the Chicago native was assigned to the G League affiliate team, the Motor City Cruise where he saw action in 18 contests, averaging 8.7 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 1.1 assists in 22.5 minutes per game.

Bass (6-8, 200, Detroit-Mercy) appeared in 18 contests for the Stars with 12 starts, owning Showcase Cup averages of 16.1 points, 6.4 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 1.1 steals in 28.6 minutes per game. He previously spent the 2021-22 season with the South Bay Lakers of the NBA G League and appeared in two games for the Phoenix Suns.

Smith will wear the jersey number six for the Stars.
