El Paso Chihuahuas News Release
The El Paso Chihuahuas trailed 10-0 early Thursday and almost completed the biggest comeback in team history but lost to the Salt Lake Bees 11-10.
C.J. Cron's two home runs in the first three innings helped the Bees build the 10-run lead. The Chihuahuas scored three runs in the third, three more in the fifth and two runs in the seventh to make it 10-8.
Trailing 11-8 entering the bottom of the ninth, El Paso struck three consecutive hits, including an RBI triple by Carlos Asuaje and an RBI infield single from Jose Pirela. With Pirela representing the tying run at first base with one out, Christian Villanueva connected on a low line drive down the third base line. Third baseman Nolan Fontana was guarding the line, picked the ball on one hop and started a 5-4-3 double play to end the game.
Adam Cimber and Keith Hessler combined for 5.1 innings of shutout relief Thursday while the Chihuahuas were making their comeback attempt. The Chihuahuas team record for biggest comeback remains seven runs, which they did twice, once in 2014 and once in 2015.
