Victoria, BC- The Victoria Salmon Kings, proud affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks and Manitoba Moose, announced today that the team has agreed to terms with Goaltender David Belitski.
The 5-foot-8, 170-lb native of Toronto, Ontario has logged professional time in the American Hockey League (AHL), the ECHL, and German Elite leagues.
"David is an experienced goaltender who has been a winner and is a proven competitor," said Tony MacAulay, Salmon Kings head coach. "His expertise will be an asset to our defensive core and to the team learning atmosphere. I truly admire his will to win."
Belitski began his career in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) with the Kitchener Rangers in 1993. His strongest of the four seasons with the Rangers was in 1996-97 where he earned two shut outs, 22 wins, and a 0.896 save percentage.
The 29-year-old Netminder's last stint in the ECHL was with the Roanoke Express in 2003-04. Belitski earned a 0.920 save percentage, 2.74 goals against average, one shut out, and a 22-10-5 record. In the same season, he was called up to the AHL with the Toronto Roadrunners.
He spent the last two seasons in the German Oberliga with the Heilbronn Falcons.
"I am looking forward to playing in Canada again," said Belitski. "This is an organization that is going in the right direction and has the drive to make something special of this hockey club. I couldn't pass up that opportunity."
Belitski becomes the second goaltender added to the Salmon Kings roster for the 2006-07 season.
