Salmon Kings Ink NHL'er Quintin Laing

Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings, proud affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks and Manitoba Moose, announced today that they have signed veteran forward Quintin Laing for the 2010-11 season.

The Harris, SK native spent the majority of his 2009-10 season in the National Hockey League (NHL), appearing in 36 games with the Washington Capitals. During that stretch he recorded four points (2g-2a) and 21 minutes in penalties.

Laing has appeared in 79 career NHL games split between the Washington Capitals and Chicago Blackhawks. For his NHL career he has amassed three goals and eight assists for 11 points while serving 31 penalty minutes. The veteran forward was also represented as the Capitals' 2007-08 nomination for the league's Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy, which is awarded to the player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to ice hockey.

The 6-2, 200 lb forward has also spent time during the last four seasons (2006-07 through 2009-10) with the Hershey Bears, Washington's American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate. In 152 appearances in Hershey he totaled 76 points (26g-50a) with 93 minutes in penalties. Laing was also alternate captain of the Bears' squad that captured the 2008-09 Calder Cup championship, where he scored four points (2g-2a) in nine playoff contests.

Prior to his time in the Capitals' organization, Laing spent the majority of six seasons (2000-01 through 2005-06) in the AHL with the Norfolk Admirals. Across his 357 appearances as an Admiral, he amassed 47 goals and 82 assists for 129 points while tallying 263 minutes in penalties. While in Norfolk, Laing enjoyed his best offensive professional season (2005-06) recording 45 points (14g-31a) and 70 penalty minutes across 73 games played.

The 31-year-old Laing began his professional career during the 2000-01 season where he spent 60 games in the ECHL with the Jackson Bandits, notching 37 points (13g-24a) and 39 minutes in penalties during that time. Laing also spent 16 games with Jackson the following season where he scored four goals and assisted on six others for 10 points with 12 penalty minutes.

Laing, a fourth-round selection (#102 overall) of the Detroit Red Wings in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft, has dressed for 664 career professional games, recording 263 points (93g-170a) and 448 minutes in penalties. The forward has also appeared in 56 professional playoff contests, accruing 11 goals and 10 assists for 21 points while garnering 27 penalty minutes.

Prior to turning professional, Laing spent a four-year junior career (1996-97 through 1999-00) entirely with the Kelowna Rockets of the Western Hockey League (WHL). In 260 games as a Rocket he netted 145 points (57g-88a) while serving 269 minutes in penalties. In his final season of junior, Laing led all Rockets skaters in scoring, banking 52 points (22g-30a) in 60 games played. Laing appeared in the WHL Playoffs in each of his four seasons in Kelowna, finishing with six points (4g-2a) and 16 minutes in penalties across 24 contests.

The Salmon Kings open their home-schedule of the 2010-11 regular season at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre tonight against the Ontario Reign, with games to follow on Friday, October 29th and Saturday, October 30th.
