Salmon Kings get two D-men for a Finn

Victoria, BC - Victoria Salmon Kings Head Coach and General Manager Bryan Maxwell has traded the rights to forward Ryan Finnerty to the Texas Wildcatters in return for two defensemen. Joining the Fish will be Simon Mangos and Aaron MacInnis.

Simon Mangos is familiar to both Salmon Kings fans and Maxwell as he played 52 games with the Fresno Falcons recording seven goals and 13 assists for twenty points.

The 25-year-old native of Caledon, Ontario was moved to the Wildcatters where he played the final 10 games of the season, netting a goal and adding nine helpers for a total of 10 points.

The 5'10 185lbs Mangos is a puck moving defenseman who played four full season's at Ferris State University in the NCAA. His best season in College hockey came in the 2002-03 season when he recorded 22 points (11 goals and 11 assists) in 42 games.

MacInnis is by no means a throw-in in the deal. The 6'1 200lbs native of Port Hood, Nova Scotia is more of a stay-at-home blueliner who has played two seasons in the ECHL. MacInnis' professional career began with the Cincinnati Cyclones where he played 22 games before moving to the Wildcatters. MacInnis notched 3 goals and 10 assists in his rookie season in the ECHL.

The 24-year-old nephew of future Hall of Famer Al MacInnis played 71 games with the Wildcatters last season finishing with a goal and 13 assists for 14 points.

MacInnis played three seasons of major junior hockey split between the Ontario and Quebec leagues. After finishing junior hockey MacInnis went on to play four seasons in the CIS with the University of Prince Edward Island. His best season in the CIS came in 2001-02 when he scored 8 goals and 11 assists for 19 points in 28 games.

Ryan Finnerty who was a fan favorite when he was in the Salmon Kings line-up played 52 games in the Salmon Kings inaugural year scoring 13 goals and 13 assists for 26 points.

Bryan Maxwell will be available for comment at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre at 1:00pm on Monday September 12, 2005.
