Salmon Kings Bring Down Falcons

The Salmon Kings and Fresno Falcons met today in the finale of their three-game set in Victoria. The teams had split the first two games of the series with Victoria winning on Friday night in a shootout and Fresno taking the second game in overtime.

In a very aggressive first period the two teams battled to a scoreless draw. Wes Goldie broke the 0-0 tie about halfway through the second period with a power play goal when he put in a rebound of a Dylan Yeo shot. Victoria led 1-0 after 40 minutes of play.

The Kings would extend their lead when Paul Ballantyne blasted a shot from the right point past Falcons goaltender Kris Moyette. Fresno would jump back into the game when Daryl Marcoux would put the second rebound past Julien Ellis. Wes Goldie would seal the game for Victoria with less than five minutes remaining when he scored on a breakaway. Salmon Kings 3 Fresno 1. Victoria went 1/4=25% on the power play, and Fresno went 0/5=0%. Fresno outshot Victoria 43-29.

The Salmon Kings now take a rest over the All-Star break before resuming their schedule Friday in Alaska. Game time is 8:15 PST. The Kings return to Victoria on Monday, February 11th when Fresno returns to the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre. Game time is 7:05 p.m. Call 220-7889 for tickets.
