KEIZER, Ore. - Salem-Keizer claimed the final game of a five-game series with the Boise Hawks, taking advantage of three unearned runs to win, 4-1, before 1,939 fans at Volcanoes Stadium.
An Andrew Cain fielders' choice in the sixth inning scored Matt Duffy from third to break a 1-1 tie, with a wild throw on the play allowing Chuckie Jones to score. A fielding error by Gioskar Amaya on a Stephen Yarrow grounder allowed Cain to score to cap the scoring.
Armando Paniagua, Gaspar Santiago, and Tyler Mizenko each tossed a scoreless inning of relief to close out the game, as S-K claimed 4-of-5 from the Hawks.
The Volcanoes opened the scoring in the first, as Jones lined a sacrifice fly to score Kentrell Hill, but the Hawks rallied in the sixth, tying the game on an RBI double from Willson Contreras.
Both starters were solid - as Willengton Cruz allowed an unearned run on just three hits for the Hawks, striking out six, while Mario Rodriguez tossed five shutout innings, allowing just four hits.
Contreras, Dong-Yub Kim, and Marco Hernandez each had two hits in the loss for Boise, while Jones had the lone multi-hit game for S-K.
The Hawks return home tomorrow night to open a five-game series with Eugene, as Jose Arias meets Brandon Alger at 7:15 p.m.
