Boise Hawks News Release
KEIZER, Ore. - A pair of unearned runs in the top of the 11th inning helped the Boise Hawks to their first win of the 2012 season, knocking off the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes, 6-4, before 2,262 fans at Volcanoes Stadium.
Rock Shoulders led off the 11th with a walk, followed by a Jeimer Candelario single. After a fielders' choice by Dong-Yub Kim put runners at first and third, Justin Marra hit a sky-high pop-up on the infield that was dropped by first-baseman Joe Rapp. Rapp threw to second, trying to force Marra, but the ball was dropped by shortstop Jean Delgado, allowing Shoulders to score the go-ahead run. Eduardo Gonzalez followed with a squeeze bunt to score Kim to close the scoring.
Boise trailed 3-1 in the sixth, but tallied a pair of unearned runs - thanks to a pair of passed balls and a wild pitch, to tie the score. Kim gave the Hawks the lead in the seventh with a solo homer, but S-K evened the game in the bottom of the inning on a throwing error by Hawks shortstop Marco Hernandez.
Rafael Diplan got the win, throwing three-plus innings of shutout relief, walking just two men and fanning four, without allowing a hit. Bryce Shafer tossed a 1-2-3 11th for his first save.
Marra went 3-for-5 in his professional debut, with Candelario going 2-for-5 in the win.
Brennan Metzger and Chuckie Jones each had two hits, with Jones hitting a two-run homer in the third inning to give the Volcanoes a 2-1 lead.
The final game of the series is tomorrow night, with Willengton Cruz meeting Mario Rodriguez at 7:35 p.m. (MT)
