Salcedo Homers But M-Braves Fall 6-2 in Mobile

Mobile, AL - The Mississippi Braves bats were baffled on Friday night by Diamondbacks prospect Archie Bradley as the Mobile BayBears evened the series at a game apiece with a 6-2 win at Hank Aaron Stadium.

Bradley (4-0) threw six innings and allowed just two hits while walking five in an effectively wild night. Michael Lee (3-3) threw six innings for the Braves (28-19) and allowed six runs, four earned, on eleven hits in the loss.

Christian Marrero had the lone two hits off of Bradley with singles in the second and sixth innings, and the Braves threatened to break the shutout early a few times. Mississippi loaded the bases with one out in the fourth and with two outs in the sixth, but a double play and a foul pop respectively ended the threats and kept the BayBears shutout intact.

That is, until Edward Salcedo stepped to the plate in the eighth. Reliever Brett Lorin allowed a double to Tommy La Stella, the Braves' first extra-base hit of the night. Two pitches later Salcedo sent a ball sailing over the wall in left-center for a two-run home run, his sixth of the season to pull the score to 6-2.

The BayBears (24-23) jumped early, getting three straight hits with one out in the first inning. After Justin Greene singled, Mike Freeman followed suit and reached second on a throw to third trying to get Greene. Nick Evans hit a two-run single down the right field line to put the BayBears ahead 2-0.

In the third inning, Greene tripled with one out and scored on a Freeman sacrifice lineout to left to put the BayBears ahead 3-0. Then with two outs, Evans singled and Jon Griffin reached on an error by Tommy La Stella. That set up a Keon Broxton two-run double to give the BayBears a 5-0 lead on two unearned.

In the fourth, the BayBears tacked on one more with a two-out single by Ender Inciarte and an RBI double by Greene.

Greene finished 3-for-4 and a home run shy of the cycle.

Mississippi now looks to regain the series edge in game three on Saturday night at 7:05 PM CT.
