The Stars... The Stars are in their 29th season as a franchise. Prior to becoming part of the Milwaukee Brewers organization in 1999, the Stars were the Double-A affiliate of the Oakland Athletics for 14 seasons. Prior to the start of the 2013 season, the Stars have won three Southern League Championships ('85, '94, '01).
Introducing: The Smokies... The Tennessee Smokies have been the Chicago Cubs Double-A affiliate since 2007. The Stars and Smokies have already played a series against each other this year, in which the Smokies took four of five games at Joe Davis Stadium on April 15th-19th. With their 2-0 loss on Thursday night, the Stars are now just 1-5 against the Smokies this season.
Shutout... On Thursday, the Stars were shutout for the fifth time this season and second time in their last four contests. In 2012, Huntsville was just shutout nine times in 139 games.
Quality Starts... Overall, the Stars have gotten five straight quality starts from their starting. Combined, RHP Ariel Pena (6.1 IP, 0 ER), RHP Taylor Jungmann (7.0 IP, 3 ER), RHP Andy Moye (8.0 IP, 0 ER), RHP Arcenio Leon (6.0 IP, 2 ER) and RHP Jimmy Nelson (7 IP, 2 ER) have a 1.84 ERA over that time.
Who's Hot... With another multi-hit game on Thursday, C Robinzon Diaz has 10 hits in his last 18 at-bats (.625). Over his last eight games, Diaz is 14-for-26 (.538) at the dish with five doubles.
Roaring Rogers... With his second two-homer, five-RBI game of the season on Tuesday, Stars 1B Jason Rogers is arguably the best hitter in the entire Southern League. Leading the SL in HR (9) and RBI (39), the 25-year-old first basemen is 2/3 of the way to the Triple Crown, as his .289 average ranks 10th in the league.
Series Victories... With their 3-0 victory on Monday, the Stars clinched their second consecutive series victory overall. Prior to their series with the Biscuits, the Stars took three out of five games against the Southern League South leaders (Mississippi Braves) at Trustmark Park. The Stars hadn't won a series after taking four out of five games in their season-opening series against the Chattanooga Lookouts.
Roster Moves... On Thursday, RHP Mark Williams was activated from the disabled list. The 23-year-old righty has made six appearances with the Stars prior to is DL stint on 5/19 (retro to 5/16).
Previous Game... To open up a five-game series at Smokies Park and a ten-game road trip overall, the Huntsville Stars were shutout for the fifth time this season on Thursday, losing to the Tennessee Smokies by a score of 2-0. Stars starting pitcher Jimmy Nelson took the hardpressed loss, falling to 5-3 on the year after giving up just two runs and four hits in a season-high seven innings. On offense, the Stars were led by catcher Robinzon Diaz, who went 2-for-3 at the plate for his third straight multi-hit game.
