Saladino Promoted to Charlotte, Santiago Optioned from Chicago

(Fort Mill, SC) - Shortstop Tyler Saladino, who entered the 2012 season ranked by Baseball America as the eighth-best prospect in the White Sox organization, has been promoted to the Charlotte Knights today as announced by the White Sox. Saladino hit .255 with four home runs and 36 RBIs over 97 games with Double-A Birmingham this season. He currently ranks first in the Southern League in walks (74), second in runs scored (67) and third in stolen bases (36).

Two other roster moves were also made today affecting Charlotte's roster. LHP Hector Santiago was optioned down from Chicago and catcher Damaso Espino was transferred back to Birmingham (AA). The Knights current roster is at 23 active players.

Saladino, who celebrated his 23rd birthday just 10 days ago, was originally selected by the White Sox in the seventh round of the June 2010 First-Year Player Draft.

In 2011, Saladino hit .270 with 26 doubles, nine triples, 16 home runs and 55 RBIs in 102 games. He tied for the Carolina League lead in triples, ranked third in slugging percentage (.501) and runs scored (75).

Santiago, 24, was 2-1 with a 3.66 ERA, four saves and 43 strikeouts over 32 appearances (39.1 innings) this season with the White Sox.

Espino, 29, did not appear in a game with the Knights this season. He was assigned to Charlotte from Birmingham on July 24.
