International League Names Players of the Week

The International League announced today that Columbus outfielder Ezequiel Carrera and Syracuse pitcher Tanner Roark have been named the League's Batter and Pitcher of the Week for the period from July 23-29. Carrera becomes the fourth member of the Clippers honored with an IL weekly award in 2012, following Matt LaPorta (April 23-29), Russ Canzler (June 11-17), and Jeanmar Gomez (July 9-15). Roark is the second member of the Chiefs to win an IL weekly award this season, following Corey Brown (May 21-27).

EZEQUIEL CARRERA, Columbus Clippers IL BATTER OF THE WEEK

Clippers center fielder Ezequiel Carrera led the International League with 16 hits, 11 runs scored, and 12 RBI this week to go along with a .485 batting average. Carrera hit safely in all seven games this week to extend his current hitting streak to 19 games. He had an extra-base hit in six of the seven contests and on three separate occasions had 3 RBI in a game. Carrera is now 2nd in the International League for the season with 64 runs scored and is 3rd with 115 hits and 25 stolen bases.

25-year-old Ezequiel Carrera is in his eighth season of professional baseball and his third in the Cleveland organization. He is a veteran of 68 games in the Major Leagues, all coming last season with the Indians. Carrera is a native of Guiria, Venezuela.

TANNER ROARK, Syracuse Chiefs IL PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Right-hander Tanner Roark entered the week with a League-high twelve losses, but this week he won consecutive starts for the first time this season. In two seven-inning outings, which included a complete game during Sunday's doubleheader, Roark allowed just nine hits and two runs in 14.0 total innings of work. Going 7.0 innings for the first time in 2012, Roark won a pair of 6-1 ballgames to improve his record to 6-12 and lower his ERA to 4.95.

25-year-old Tanner Roark is in his fifth season as a professional pitcher, and his first above the Double-A level. Last season with Harrisburg of the Eastern League, Roark went 9-9 with a 4.69 ERA in 21 starts. Roark is a native of Wilmington, Illinois.
