St. Paul Saints News Release
ST. PAUL, MN (June 29, 2007) - Heroes come in all shapes and sizes and when you least expect it. Unfortunately, many times they go unrecognized, which is exactly why the St. Paul Saints and TDS Metrocom will honor members of the local Police Departments, Fire Departments and Emergency Medical Staffs during "Unsung Heroes Night," Friday, July 6 at Midway Stadium.
Each day these fine people risk their lives to help our community. The importance of their jobs often isn't recognized until they do something that directly affects each of us. Their jobs include a physical, mental and emotional grind day in and day out and many of their heroic acts are often forgotten The Saints are turning to members of the community to help ensure that none of these hard working individuals go unnoticed.
The Saints and TDS Metrocom, teaming up for the third consecutive year to make the Independence Day Celebration memorable and meaningful, are calling on people in the community to write in and tell their "unsung hero" moments. Fans should describe their experience with one or more of the individuals in the police, fire or emergency departments, including why they consider the action to be heroic. Fans can log onto the Saints website at saintsbaseball.com and click on the Unsung Heroes button to tell their story. Some of the stories will be read during the pre-game ceremony prior to the July 6 game.
"Although we hear about them, and see them everyday, their efforts and their heroism often go unnoticed," said Kurt Daugherty, Regional Marketing Manager for TDS Metrocom. "These very special men and women, who protect us, make our lives safer, and do their jobs with professionalism and courage while putting their own lives in danger, deserve every measure of our gratitude."
While the respective departments have agreed to be honored on the night of July 6, they didn't want our troops overseas to go unnoticed either. A live video connection with members from the National Guard serving in Iraq, many of whom serve in the local police, fire and emergency medical staff departments, will be played on the Saints video board during the evening. During past Independence Day Celebrations, the Saints have played videos on their video board in left-center field from troops overseas. It has been such a big hit that the Saints are continuing the tradition.
There will be thousands of unsung heroes on hand, including department chiefs from around the Twin Cities who have been invited as guests courtesy of TDS Metrocom. Last year's Independence Day Celebration brought a Saints record crowd of 9,251 to the ballpark.
In honor of all the hard working men and women in these respective departments the Saints will wear baseball caps with the St. Paul Police Department, Fire Department and EMT logos on them.
The Saints take on the Lincoln Saltdogs beginning at 7:05 p.m. with gates opening at 6:00 p.m. and parking for tailgating beginning at 4:00 p.m. Following the game is the Saints largest fireworks show of the season. For more information or for tickets to the July 6 event contact the Saints box office at 651-644-6659 or online at saintsbaseball.com.
