St. Paul Saints News Release

POMONA, NY (June 4, 2013) - It wasn't for a lack of opportunities that the St. Paul Saints lost 4-3 on Tuesday night to the Rockland Boulders at Provident Bank Park, but they couldn't get the big hit when the situation called for it and dropped their fifth game on this 10-game roadtrip.

With the game tied at three in the sixth Willie Cabrera led off with a double. With one out he moved to third on a ground out by Jose Hernandez, but Jordan Tripp grounded out to short to end the inning.

In the eighth Brad Boyer led off with an infield single and Craig Brazell was hit by a pitch. Cabrera then fouled out to third, but Brandon Tripp walked to load the bases. On the first pitch to Hernandez he grounded into a 5-4-3 double play to end the inning.

That shifted the momentum to the Boulders as the number nine hitter Mike Gedman led off the bottom of the eighth with a solo homer to right, his first of the season, for the game winning run.

The Saints had their first big opportunity to score in the third when Hernandez was hit by a pitch and Jordan Tripp reached on an infield single. After Childs sacrificed them over, Adam Frost grounded out to third which held the runners. Kaczrowski ended the inning by grounding out to third.

The Boulders used that momentum shift to score three in the bottom of the third. Donnie Webb led off with a solo homer to right, his second of the season. With two outs Jerod Edmondson singled and then advanced to second on a throwing error on a pickoff attempt. Chris Edmondson was intentionally walked and Steve Cardullo walked to load the bases. Billy Alvino then hit what looked like a routine grounder to short, but the ball hit the lip of the grass and went under Frost's glove for a two-run single and gave the Boulders a 3-0 lead.

The Saints answered in the fourth when Boyer extended his hitting streak to eight games with a single to center. Brazell then flew out to left and Boyer tagged up and went to second. Cabrera drove home Boyer with a single to left-center to cut the deficit to 3-1. Brandon Tripp then blasted a two-run homer to right-center, his sixth of the season and ninth time in 18 games he has collected two RBI in a game, to tie it at three.

The same two teams meet in the third game of the four game series at 10:30 a.m. eastern on Wednesday. The Saints send RHP Luke Anderson (1-0, 2.81) to the mound while the Boulders are TBA. The game can be heard on Club 1220 AM.
